Cub Scout Day Camp – Wild West!

Thursday, December 27th, 2012

Are you ready for a Wild West Adventure? Registration for Cub Scout Day Camp is now open!

This year camp will be from June 24-28, 2013 from 8:00am – 4:00pm daily at the Carroll County Agriculture Center

New this year: Register online at http://www.baltimorebsa.org/event/1258832 — complete the forms and pay online, then mail your medical forms directly to the registrar.

Please consider volunteering either full-time or part-time – our scouts need you. Not only do you receive a discount on your son’s registration, but you get to spend time in the Wild West with them too! Junior Camper programs are also available for siblings so they do not have to miss out on the fun (only available when a parent is volunteering)! None of Pack 883′s camp registrations will be processed until we have enough volunteers to cover our registered scouts so please consider volunteering as you register your scout (register yourself when you register your scout). All volunteers must have completed online STAND training prior to volunteering available at www.myscouting.org .

If you have any questions, please ask away!

Help Wanted – Pack Picnic (May Pack Meeting)

Monday, December 24th, 2012

We need a volunteer to coordinate food purchase/preparation for our annual Pack Picnic at the May Pack Meeting on Friday, May 31.

Traditionally, this is a picnic meal (hot dogs and hamburgers), but the sky is the limit – if you chair the event, you can recommend pretty much any other option.

If you can help, please email Marc Fischer at marc.fischer@transwestern.net.

Help Wanted – Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Drill

Monday, December 24th, 2012

I am teaching part of the Trainee Class for Howard County Fire & Rescue, and I could use your help!

Scouts and family members of all ages are invited to participate in a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) drill to help the Trainee Class at the Howard County Fire & Rescue Training Academy learn about managing a large-scale MCI.

Although the details are somewhat tentative, here’s what we know as of now:

  • Date: Tuesday, January 29, 2013
  • Time: 4:00 PM (tentative)
  • Location: Howard County Public Safety Training Center (PSTC)  Directions
You (and 30-40 other people) will be moulaged and given training about how to simulate a patient with injuries.  Then you will be part of a simulated mass casualty event.

Help Wanted – District Dinner

Monday, December 24th, 2012

We need your help!

The Pack and the Troop have jointly agreed to host the 2013 Carroll District Dinner next June.  I know, I know, it seems like a long way away, but we have a lot of work to do, and it is going to sneak up on us unless we get moving.

The good news – Melissa Reed-Konigsdorffer has agreed to be the leader of this committee, and she has a whole bunch of great ideas!

Now, we need 4-5 volunteers from the Pack and 4-5 volunteers from the Troop to help plan and execute this activity – and we will need lots of hands on the day of the event to make it go off without a hitch.

We need help in these areas:

  • Publicity/Marketing
  • Registration/Payments/Tickets – Diane Wolf
  • Program (largely handled by Carroll District?)
    • James E West award
    • Volunteer list
    • Awards
    • District Award
    • Scouter of the Year
    • Chairman’s Award
    • Master of Ceremonies (T883 SPL, guest speaker, ?)
    • Catering/Food (this event is usually catered, but we can certainly cook our own food – can we involve the Knights of Columbus?)
      • Beverages (drink mix, water, and coffee/tea)
      • Main course
      • Dessert
      • Paper and plastic goods
      • Create and Print Programs
      • Slide Show?

If you can help, please send me an email and let me know what section you are willing to handle – first come, first served.  Melissa is likely to host the first event in early January to start getting the proverbial “ball rolling.”

Yours in Scouting,

Marc
