HELP WANTED – WE NEED YOU!

Many of our Pack’s most significant leadership positions are either open as a result of families who bridged to Boy Scouts last year or will be open because the incumbent is bridging out of the Pack at the end of this Cub Scout year.

We are one of Carroll County’s best Scouting units, and in order to keep up that tradition, we need adults to step up to help.

No matter your interests and talents, we have a job for YOU!  Big or small.  In front of the Pack or behind the scenes.  Program or paperwork.

Please take a moment to review the attached Adult Roster – and let Diane and me know where you can help!

We are nearly desperate in our search for a Committee Chair (although we might have someone who will take on that job) and a Cubmaster!

Martin’s Card Fundraiser

Now that school is back in session, it’s time to kick off our Martin’s card program for this new Cub Scouting year.

Don’t forget – for every $100 in Martin’s cards you purchase, your son receives $5 to go back into his Scout account.  This is a great way to fund Scouting-related costs (registration fees, new uniform parts, Day Camp, etc.) – and, in the event there is a balance in the account when the Scout bridges to Boy Scouts, he can take that balance to his Boy Scout Troop.

Carroll District Leader Training

Every Scout deserves a trained leader!

Scout leaders (both those who are new to the program and those who are experienced) are invited to the Carroll District Cub Scout Leader Training on Saturday, October 20 at St. Joseph Catholic Community.

Don’t forget:  all costs for this training are paid by the Pack!

  • Cub Scout Leader Workshop
    • Although this training is available online, this program is taught by experienced Cub Scout leaders,and it is much more “hands on” then taking the training on the computer.
    • Training will run from 8:30 AM until 12 noon
    • There will be specific breakout courses for:  Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmaster, Den Leader and Assistant Den Leader,Webelos Den Leader and Webelos Assistant Den Leader, Pack Committee, and Pack Trainer
    • You need this training.  If:
      • You are a brand-new Leader – this is your initial training
      • You are a Cub Scout Den Leader/Assistant Den Leader and you have bridged into Webelos (Webelos Den Leader is a different position than Cub Scout Den Leader, so you need to take a different training course)
      • You are an existing leader, but you are changing positions within the Pack
  • Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)
    • This training is not available online.
    • In order to go camping with your Den, at least one leader must have BALOO training. It is highly advisable that each Den have several adults who have this training card.
    • Training will run from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM
    • This course will also be offered in the spring.
  • Pack 883 New Leader Training
    • October 20 was our original New Leader Training day.  The new leaders (which happened to be for Tiger Cub and Wolf Dens) do not need BALOO immediately, so we should be able to start our new leader training at 12:30 PM on the same day.
    • If you are a new leader or an assistant leader, please plan to attend this training session.
    • Please send me an e-mail (marc.fischer@transwestern.net) to RSVP (either way – whether you can/cannot attend) so that I can prepare
    • In the event this turns out to be a bad day, we will work to find another day when all of those leaders can get together.

Recruiting Contest

Please encourage your son to invite his friends to join our Pack!

  • If your son recruits a new Cub Scout during the time of the contest (June – December), he will:
    • Receive a recruiter patch for his uniform
    • Get to throw a pie into the face of the Cubmaster at the December Pack Meeting
    • Have a chance to win a $10 gift certificate to Wal-Mart in a drawing at each Pack Meeting between October and December
      • Each recruiter gets one entry for each new Cub Scout he recruits, so the more Cub Scouts he recruits, the greater his odds will be of winning
    • At the December meeting, we will draw for the Grand Prize (a $50 Wal Mart gift card)

Campership Fund

We firmly believe that Scouting is for all boys – regardless of income level.  As a result, the Pack Committee has approved a Campership Program to make sure the Cub Scout program is available to all.

For whatever reason, if you are unable to afford the cost of the program, please consider using our Campership Program.

(Before applying for campership funds, don’t forget that your recharter costs can be covered by profits from the annual popcorn sale, and all of your other costs can be paid from our Martin’s card program.  In most cases, Cub Scouts who sell popcorn, and families who use the Martin’s card program can greatly offset the cost of our program.)
