Scouting for Food

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

From our Community Service chair, Ira Seidel…

Dear all,

The Scouting for Food service project is held on two Saturdays in late February/early March. It takes about an hour each morning. The first morning, the boys go door-to-door and place plastic grocery bags with information about the project on front door knobs. The second Saturday (in this case, March 6), they go door-to-door again to pick up bags of food that have been donated. This is a national Scouting effort.

The Scouting for Food bag drop off is this Saturday, February 27th at 9 AM. Meet in the parking lot of SJCC at 9 AM sharp. Ira and Doug will break us into small groups and will explain how the process works.

The boys should wear their uniforms, and the boys should never go inside anyone’s home. Of importance, since there is so much snow this year, and since sidewalks are still largely impassable, please plan to have an adult with your Cub Scout for safety reasons. We will have a limited number of reflective vests for the adults to use when walking through the neighborhoods with the boys. If you happen to have reflective vests of your own, we would appreciate your assistance to bring them with you during the event.

On March 6, we will again meet at 9 AM in the parking lot at SJCC, and we will collect the items that have been donated. We will take the donated items to the drop off location at Carrolltown Mall (corner of parking lot nearest the McDonalds) to unload, weigh, and turn in our donations.

All of the boys who participate get patches, and we will file a report about our service activities.

We hope you can come out to help!

Please call me at (410) 935-9302 or email me at laurieira@msn.com if you have any questions.

Yours in Scouting,

Ira Seidel
