To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America, the Baltimore Area Council has a number of events planned in 2010. Perhaps the biggest event will be the Star-Spangled Camporee to be held from October 1 – 3, 2010 in and around Fort McHenry in Baltimore.
There are two ways to participate:
- Cub Scout Packs will family camp (either in Fort McHenry or in one of the City Parks in the area of the Fort)
- Don’t worry – I actually went to a similar event for the 75th Anniversary of BSA when I was a Scout. The event is being coordinated with the Baltimore City Police Department and the Maryland National Guard. If there is a thought in your mind that camping in a city park is not safe – that is not going to be the case that weekend.
- There is going to be an amazing arena show (including a laser and light show) on Saturday evening, October 2. It is likely that Scouts and Scouters who elect not to camp will be offered the opportunity to visit the Camporee to see the show (in case you do not want to camp).
The attached information bulletin provides information about the Camporee. If you have questions or require more information, please contact our Centennial of Scouting Coordinator, Ron Cromwell, at the next Pack Meeting or at rcromwell@rocketmail.com.
Hope to See You at the Fort!
