REVISED – Open Position Listing

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Pack 883 has as a requirement of being part of our Pack that all families to need to volunteer in some way to help the Pack.

Here is an updated list showing the open positions:

Positions Needed – 10192009

In addition, many of our committees spots are filled – but with only one person.  We really need to add extra people in many of our positions.  If you are interested in helping, please contact Diane Wolf (dwolf@merrittclubs.com) or Marc Fischer (marc.fischer@transwestern.net).   I promise we will find an appropriate position for you!

Klondike 2010 – January 23, 2010

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Klondike is Carroll District’s annual winter adventure, and Pack 883 will be participating again in this exciting activity!  This day is Cub Scouting at its best – lots of hands on activities and events for your Cub Scout, and a really fun time out in the cold (and it is usually COLD)!

Halloween Party – Friday, October 30 at 7:00 PM

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Don’t forget our annual Halloween Party at our October Pack Meeting on Friday, October 30 at 7:00 PM.

Families should come dressed in a costume.

Scouts and siblings will play a variety of Halloween-themed games.

Each den will compete in a Halloween costume contest.  Winners will be chosen from each den based upon the following categories:

  • · Most Scary
  • · Most Funny
  • · Most Original
  • · Best Imitation (for the costumes that look most like a character [Harry Potter, Darth Vader, etc.])

Each child will receive a “goodie bag” at the end of the night – compliments of Pack 883.

We hope to see you there!

Neighbors in Need

Monday, October 19th, 2009

PLEASE HELP!

Happy holidays to you and your family!

While many of us are blessed with a loving family, a warm home, an abundance of food, and plentiful creature comforts this holiday season, there are many families in Carroll County who are not as fortunate.  It is hard to believe it, but there are people right in our community who are struggling to heat their home, provide basic clothing for their family, and purchase groceries to make healthy meals.  And, during the Holidays, there is added pressure on these fragile families to provide presents for their children.  Add to all of this the uncertainty of the economy and rising prices for groceries, fuel, and utilities, and it is easy to see how hard this holiday season will be for families in our community.

It is easy for the true spirit of the holiday to be lost on our own children (who, like kids throughout America, see this as a time of gift receiving instead of gift giving).  Surrounded by affluence, it can be hard for them to understand that there are children in Carroll County who might not receive any gifts this season.

In an effort to help teach our children about the meaning of the holidays, Pack 883 has decided to support Neighbors in Need, a program of Carroll County’s Human Services Program (www.hspinc.org).   The Neighbors in Need program provides holiday toys for children, food vouchers, and clothing (for men, women, children, and infants) at a Santa Shop in Westminster.  The shop operates for one week just prior to Christmas, and families are referred to the program through Carroll County’s Department of Social Services.

Would you consider donating new clothing (winter coats, jeans, shirts, socks, and underwear) or new toys for this worthy charity?  Please bring your donations to our November Pack Meeting, and members of our Community Service committee will deliver the donations to Neighbors in Need later in December.

We hope you will consider helping us this year, and we hope you and your family have a memorable holiday season!

Star-Spangled Camporee

Monday, October 19th, 2009

To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America, the Baltimore Area Council has a number of events planned in 2010.  Perhaps the biggest event will be the Star-Spangled Camporee to be held from October 1 – 3, 2010 in and around Fort McHenry in Baltimore.

There are two ways to participate:

  • Cub Scout Packs will family camp (either in Fort McHenry or in one of the City Parks in the area of the Fort)
    • Don’t worry – I actually went to a similar event for the 75th Anniversary of BSA when I was a Scout.  The event is being coordinated with the Baltimore City Police Department and the Maryland National Guard.  If there is a thought in your mind that camping in a city park is not safe – that is not going to be the case that weekend.
  • There is going to be an amazing arena show (including a laser and light show) on Saturday evening, October 2.  It is likely that Scouts and Scouters who elect not to camp will be offered the opportunity to visit the Camporee to see the show (in case you do not want to camp).

The attached information bulletin provides information about the Camporee.  If you have questions or require more information, please contact our Centennial of Scouting Coordinator, Ron Cromwell, at the next Pack Meeting or at rcromwell@rocketmail.com.

Hope to See You at the Fort!
